Dear friend,
Just sittin' here, lookin' outside, like she does all day while I sit at my desk and paint. Lina is our little dreamer. I think she's collecting material for her dreams, the ones where she runs in her sleep, chasing the squirrels and robins into the tippity-tops of the crepe myrtles. Bless her precious little heart.
Today I'm trying to tie up all the little loose ends I should before we leave for the Thanksgiving holiday. We're going up to North Carolina this year to spend time with my Dad's family...something we barely ever get to do, and we're all staying together in a cabin on Lake Junaluska. I'm so looking forward to spending time with them, sleeping in, and reading books in bed all morning long.
And now, the cakes:
It seemed like the general consensus on these was options #3 and #4, which is funny because I was leaning towards #1 and #2. You changed my mind! I'm so glad you changed my mind. The Guinness cake is all finished, and the pumpkin cake is in the fridge right now with a crumb coat, waiting for two more layers (extra tall!) and a final blanket of caramel cream cheese swirls. It's been so so long since I made frosting like this, where you cook the caramel on the stovetop with a vanilla bean before whipping and beating in cream cheese. I was totally gobsmacked when I tasted it....vanilla-flecked burnt sugar perfection.
My heart is full of so many things this year: hope and sorrow and joy and uncertainty and thankfulness.
I am extra thankful for this space and for you.
Love,
Rebekka

your heart seems no different then many of ours. those cakes sound absolutely beautiful - have a wonderful thanksgiving with your family, and enjoy dessert.
your photos make me sigh in the nicest way possible. they are just beautiful and those cakes! my feelings have been noticeably mixed this year but on the whole i am very happy and thankful for my sweet little family. xo
I'm glad you went with those cake options! Your family will thank you ; )
Happy Thanksgiving Rebekka!
And I am extra thankful for your "space" and you, Rebekka. Blessings to you and yours. xx from Gracie
It's our first year to host Thanksgiving and our first to share together as a married couple, and my husband and I are cooking a feast. We've got family coming to visit and we've set up a very organized timeline for the day and for each dish in order to keep it in order. I have such a homemaking excitement in my stomach.
The house has been cleaned, a few dozen candles have been lit, and Christmas music is playing which makes it feel extra cozy in here. Kyle just made caramel sauce for the first time and it's currently bubbling in a caramel-apple lattice pie (and soon to bubble in a pecan pumpkin butter pie with cinnamon caramel sauce). I'm just beaming with excitement for this little break. We're having his family over and then the following day we are driving to stay with my mom and dad at their home in the countryside I love so much. I have similar hopes and daydreams--beautiful morning light streaming in, warm coffees, and a book (personal reading! not textbooks! oh to dream!) to be read with no care in mind.
Be safe and have a wonderful trip. I've got family in North Carolina and it's always such a beautiful visit when we go. I remember once driving through those windy mountain roads with snow falling all around. It was a perfect drive.
My best,
Jo Farmer
Happy Thanksgiving to you and Manley. Have a great time with your family. Those cakes look beautiful. I wish that my family would go along with a cake for Thanksgiving, but they are die hard pumpkin pie eaters! I'm off right now to make them, and it is almost 5:00 pm! Every year I end up doing this to myself!!
The cakes look so yummy!
I'm praying that the coming year will be filled with joy!
This is just lovely.
I've been thinking about that Guinness cake since you posted the link to it. Can't wait for the description of its flavors :)
Happy Thanksgiving!
I am firmly of the opinion that no feast is complete without a good cake. Or two. These look absolutely perfect! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Beautiful gratitude... heart warming images and as always so much love. Thank you for sharing so openly. I wish you & yours a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving.
Aside - we do not celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia - not that we are not a grateful nation by any means - but it's not a public vacation. I so so so think it should be. ♥♥
PS - I nearly forgot... would you mind sharing your secrets with me? I was wondering how you put together the (STUNNING) image in your last "Wine Country Weekend" post? I mean do you use Photoshop or is it a function that you have available on your blog? Thank you! :-)
Scrumptious cakes!!
Happy Thanksgiving x
Have a wonderful holiday with your family, a safe trip and enjoy those cakes! It's such a sweet idea to make them in your kitchen at home and bring them all the way to your holiday destination. I'm sure they'll taste extra good.
your words always make me smile...thank you for that!
Have a piece for me sweet Rebekka! And thank YOU for everything you share here - such an inspiring, heart-warming space you have created x
Angy...yes! You just go to Pollyvore.com and you can create sets like that online, no special programs needed. You should try it, it's terribly fun and addicting! :)
Now I'm singing St. Josephs by the Avett Brothers. Thanks for the Lake Junaluska reminder.
Happy Thanksgiving.
You have a beautiful soul Rebekka Seale

Happy thanksgiving! I was in NYC a few years ago for it, we had so much fun, I wish we celebrated it in the UK. Love the photos, are they with your new camera? Very full of light! xx
Happy Thanksgiving <3
I wish we had Thanksgiving here in England. Any excuse to get the family together, but sadly it only ever seems to happen at Christmas. Not long to go though...
Have a wonderful time with your family. Wish I could bake cake like that!
These cakes look (and sound) absolutely amazing! Also, I am drooling over your bright and cheery kitchen... oh, those subway tiles! And that cake stand! Dreamy!
Such a cozy home you have!
I am so thankful for your blog. Your photographs and words brighten my day.
Lina is our daughter's name! I'm just curious, how do you pronounce it? We pronounce it like you do as in North CaroLINA and we've been so surprised that most everyone we meet pronounces it like "Lynn-a" or "Lee-na" :)
Your cakes look stunning.
